Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an entry level Civil, Construction, or Environmental Engineer with 0-2 years of experience for our Plymouth, MN location. This position will offer the right person opportunities to work on a broad range of projects, primarily related to remediation and/or solid waste management and associated infrastructure. With the direct supervision of a Licensed Engineer, this position will primarily perform construction observations and documentation during the construction season with a focus on projects related to solid waste management infrastructure (i.e. landfills, transfer stations, compost sites, industrial bi-product management, etc.). This position will conduct field work planning, site audits, collection and documentation of soil/water/soil vapor samples, remediation oversight, and site assessments and evaluations. The workload division between solid waste and/or remediation projects will be dependent on project schedules and staffing needs and may flex over time. The ideal candidate would have the ability to perform duties including construction observations, documenting observations with field notes, interpreting construction plans and specifications, coordinating field survey work, and exhibiting positive contractor and client relations in the office and the field.

Our Plymouth, MN office is comprised of a multidisciplinary team and this position offers the right person opportunities to work on a broad range of projects in addition to solid waste and remediation work, pending workload and staff availability. Water, municipal, community development, and environment/natural resources related projects are also potential opportunities within this location.

Your Key Responsibilities

Perform construction observations, field testing, and field measurements

Document construction activities, progress, and correspondence

Interpret construction plans and specifications

Communicate with the project team and stakeholders (verbally and written)

Develop construction progress reports and communicate with the project team, contractor, and client as required

Collect soil and groundwater samples; perform field screening as applicable

Coordinate and assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations.

Oversee and conduct soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations.

Conduct on-going monitoring events.

Assist with developing plan sets and specifications for solid waste facility design projects

Assist with environmental compliance and operational reporting for solid waste and other facilities

Collect, and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

Maintain positive client/public relations both in the office and in the field

Prepare technical documents using MS Word, and Excel

Perform stormwater modeling for civil design projects using HydroCAD software

Perform water balance modeling using HELP model or similar software

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Excellent computer and technical skills, experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and HydroCAD software preferred

Experience with utilizing a tablet and various applications to promote paperless documentation procedures

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Hardworking and enjoys learning

Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, to accommodate schedules

Ability to travel to other offices and project sites, including extended overnight stays out of town or out of state, as needed; field work may take place in remote locations with minimal amenities available

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Geology, Environmental Science or Science related field is required

0-3 years of experience in Civil, Construction, or Environmental Engineering is preferred

Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred

Experience with nuclear density gauges is preferable

Experience with Trimble GPS equipment is preferable

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather and do repetitive work such as lifting bending standing for long periods of time. Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
