Job Profile Summary

Builds relationships and provides truthful and not misleading information and education on company products and investigational agents to HCPs, medical groups, key opinion leaders and health systems. Provides medical information to external health sources and provides internal training to various departments. Explores and identifies sites for clinical trial in all stages of development. Responds to unsolicited inquiries to establish and/or further the knowledge and understanding of marketed products, investigational agents, and related topics. Supports field medical team in execution of aligned field strategy. Leads/contributes to special team projects as necessary.

Job Description

The On-demand Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-facing representative of US Medical Affairs and a member of Field Medical team with a primary responsibility of engaging virtually in the exchange of scientific data and other medical and/or scientific information with external customers (Health Care Providers, researchers, professional organizations, and population-based decision makers) in the areas of Eisai’s interest. The On-demand MSL brings relevant insights from the field on research developments, treatment landscape and new concepts in medical treatment.

The impact that an on-demand MSL will have to the organization includes the following: a) as a representative of Eisai, an on-demand MSL will communicate information about Eisai, the company and its hhc mission; b) educate the medical community on Eisai products and disease areas of interest ; c) serve as a conduit for communication between Eisai Research and the medical community regarding ideas for future research with Eisai’s products; and d) support Eisai’s corporate mission through demonstrated leadership and participation in strategic thinking.

Essential Functions

Product/Therapeutic Area Support to External Stakeholders

Cover underserved or sparsely populated areas in the region that are not typically covered by traditional/local MSL.

Interact with community or HCPs in the region that are difficult to reach or are not on the traditional/local MSL list.

Cover other areas of unmet need in the region, per manager discretion and direction

Interact with HCPs who prefer only virtual interactions.

Respond in real time to unsolicited requests from HCPs t via company business practices. Respond to other unsolicited requests for medical information as per normal business practice. Serve as a back-up MSL to cover vacancies and absences (e.g., medical leave, vacation etc.) in the region.

Partner with a local MSL in the territory and debrief as appropriate to ensure good communication.

Act as a clinical/scientific resource to HCPs in the region for information pertaining to disease state and Eisai’s product(s) to ensure awareness and understanding.

Serve as a conduit for accurate and updated clinical, scientific, and medical information between HCPs/investigators and the company’s Medical Affairs and development groups.

Establish, foster, and maintain peer relationships with HCPs in the therapeutic areas in which Eisai has current and future interests.

Share knowledge and participate in scientific exchanges and interactions with identified HCPs

Respond to unsolicited inquiries to establish and/or further the knowledge and understanding of marketed products, investigational agents, and related topics.

Present clinical, scientific, and economic data on Eisai’s products and relevant therapeutic areas to population-based decision-makers, as requested.

Identify and report key scientific, clinical and research insights from KOLs to Medical Affairs.

Cover assigned virtual medical conferences.

Training/Education Resource

Maintain and demonstrate thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, study methodology, clinical information, and product data

Demonstrate full knowledge of and ability to execute on approved medical platforms/strategies and MSL initiatives

Serve as internal scientific subject matter expert to support Eisai’s internal education, consistent with company policy.

Research Support

Partner with traditional MSL in the territory to facilitate review and follow up on submitted Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) and assist with Eisai sponsored trials.

The on-demand MSL may also be involved with providing recommendations for site selection and scientific expertise to Investigators involved in company sponsored post-marketing studies.

Professional Organization Support

Work with traditional/local MSLs and in conjunction with the appropriate internal departments to support Eisai’s collaboration and interactions with professional organizations/societies & advocacy groups

Educational Requirements

A health science degree (RN, NP, PA etc) is required

Advanced terminal D degree in medical or health sciences (e.g M.D., PhD, PharmD, DPH, EdD) is preferred

Experience

At least 1 year of MSL experience is strongly preferred

Track record of strong performance as an MSL

3-5 years industry/ clinical /research/ related experience in a clinical setting

Prior clinical experience is preferred

Strong broad-based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge

Excellent presentation and teaching skills

Clinical trial development experience is preferred

Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations and OIG guidelines are required

Strong overall written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge and experience within Eisai desired therapeutic area; comfortable and confident speaking about drug information/disease state management/ AE management

Understanding of the role and contributions provided by MSLs & Medical Affairs

Demonstrated ability to assess issues and think strategically

Demonstrated ability to work independently while adhering to Medical Affairs strategic direction and Eisai policies

Committed to the concept of team and working within the framework of the Medical Affairs Department and Eisai organization, including as it pertains to compliance with policies, systems and practices

Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license

Capable of engaging in some business travel (approximately 20% of time), including air travel, ability to travel overnight and occasionally on weekends.

This is a field-based position. The employee is required to set up a home-based office.

Domestic and international travel may include spending time at cancer trial sites/institutions, conference center, offices, and hotels.

Sound computer skills including applications for word processing, producing slide materials, and working with spreadsheets

Established relationships with key opinion leaders in therapeutic areas of interest

Understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment and appreciation for Compliance and Commercial Operations, including Marketing and Sales strategies.

Eisai Salary Transparency Language: The base salary range for the On-Demand MSL/Senior Medical Science Liaison, Oncology (East Region) – Remote is from :141,800-186,100

Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in : Eisai Inc. Annual Incentive Plan & Eisai Inc. Long Term Incentive Plan.

Final pay determinations will depend on various factors including but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, and skills.
