We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.
We are accepting applications for Natural Resources Technician 1s (3 positions available) Wildlife Research within the Division of Wildlife, headquartered in Franklin county within the state of Ohio. What you will do
- Operating vehicles (4WD truck, UTV) off-road to remote research locations
- Navigating off-road using compass, maps, and GPS
- Operating rocket nets trapping and handling wild turkeys to fit them with telemetry transmitters; maintaining auditory and camera traps; maintaining trap sites; triangulating locations of marked turkeys.
- Conducting auditory surveys for gobbling turkeys and drumming ruffed grouse
- Habitat assessments
- Data entry
- Communicating with agency and cooperating university
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of wildlife biology through the completion of at least 2 years/4 semesters of post-high school education towards a degree in wildlife biology, wildlife management, or related field
Ideal candidates will have experience or training with wild turkey ecology, experience with trapping and handling wild turkeys; experience operating rocket nets; experience with telemetry of marked wildlife
Experience with off-road navigation and travel
Able to accurately record data

Natural Resources Technician 1: Start January 2024.
Work Hours/Work Conditions
Natural Resources Technician 1: Approximately 40 hrs/week.1000 hrs. max.
Work conditions may include unusual working hours (early mornings and/or late evenings); some overnight travel; working outside in conditions ranging from extreme cold/rain/snow to high heat and humidity; possible exposure to biting insects/wildlife and poisonous plants; riding as a passenger in aircraft (fixed wing or helicopter); and physical exertion (foot travel off-road and off-trail among hills of eastern Ohio, lifting and carrying equipment). Vehicles are provided for travel to work locations.

Natural Resources Technician 1: Olentangy Wildlife Research Station, Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife (Franklin County).
Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary; valid drivers license; valid Commercial Drivers License required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Section 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code.
