Job Description:

TITLE: Writing Fellowship

DEPARTMENT: Academic Success

SUPERVISOR: Tammy Tebo

SCHEDULE: 10 hours per week

POSITION LEVEL: Non-Supervisory (Minimum Wage)

General Statement of Duties: The writing fellow will provide academic assistance to students enrolled in English courses at Worcester State. The tutors will work closely with the faculty and students to improve their English skills, including but not limited to writing, reading, and critical thinking.

Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a role model for new students by displaying the responsibility and maturity of a continuing student.

2. Communicating with relevant faculty for specific courses to know course expectations, relevant assignments, and course materials.

3. Attending all relevant training and workshops related to tutoring.

4. Meet with students individually or in small groups to provide academic support.

5. Assist students with reading comprehension, writing skills, and language proficiency.

6. Provide feedback on assignments and help students understand and implement instructor feedback.

7. Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress.

8. Attend training sessions and meetings required.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

1. Strong Interpersonal and communication skills.

2. Strong academic background in English, Literature, or a related field.

3. Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred.

4. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

5. Excellent editing, oral, and written communication.

6. Maintain a reliable attendance record.

7. Basic Computer skills, including general knowledge of all Microsoft Office.

8. Must be free of any current/pending judicial action by the University.

9. Have a reference from an instructor that taught that course.
