Job Overview

Macy’s launched a curated digital marketplace, and we are seeking a Senior Manager, Business Development. This individual will support the growth, and vision of the marketplace that accelerates Macy’s Inc. Fashion and Style leadership ambitions. This entrepreneurial role will require strong communication and analytical skills to identify, source, and secure long-lasting partnerships with new Marketplace sellers at Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s. Internally, this individual will report to the Director of Business Development and work closely with Digital, Merchandising, and other cross-functional partners across the enterprise to execute the growth strategy for Marketplace. Externally, this role will be responsible for recruiting high-priority sellers that fit within our Marketplace curation strategy.

Essential Functions

As a Senior Manager of Business Development, you will work closely with senior leaders across Merchandising to develop and execute marketplace assortment strategy that will accelerate existing merchandising plans.
You will oversee and build category strategy for a family of businesses by utilizing consumer insights, internal data, and external leads to drive market share and to grow Macy’s digital customer base.
You will be a student of the business, have a deep understanding of category trends, and have a pulse on competitors to keep Macy’s on the forefront of marketplace innovation.
You will collaborate with cross-functional partners on go-to-market activities to deliver a consistently excellent and differentiated experience to our customers.
You will oversee and coach your team in identifying, building, and scaling towards a pipeline of strategic marketplace sellers.
You will lead complex negotiations and remove seller barriers of entry to convert leads into wins.
You will be a voice of Macy’s marketplace and support sellers’ efforts to integrate into our platform. You will manage and develop a strong team of associates and assistant to meet and exceed quarterly and annual sales goals.
You will be involved in building the operating model with internal stakeholders as well as developing the financial model to project revenue growth based on forecasted seller and assortment expansion.

Competencies

Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university
6+ years of relevant work experience
Possess knowledge of, and passion for, digital commerce and specifically marketplace platforms. Previous experience launching and/or scaling an online marketplace is a plus.
Excellent communication, sales, and facilitation skills (oral, written, and listening).
Ability to understand, organize, and communicate complex information in an easily understandable format tailored to a variety of audiences.
Strong Excel and analytical skills to analyze data, generate insights and execute on opportunities.
Track record of demonstrating success with sourcing partnerships at scale.
Experience pitching and negotiating complex deals to create mutual value.
Experience in managing and developing a high performing team.
Proven ability to influence others by effectively presenting and persuading individuals or group of senior leaders
Dexterity interfacing with an array of stakeholders at partner companies.
Customer-centric mindset and experience with cross-functional collaboration.
Ability to solve problems with internal and external stakeholders and be a self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Ability to effectively share technical information and communicate technical issues/solutions to all levels of business.
Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive company information.
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs.
