Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you’re near one), at home or a bit of both, it’s up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment this role is focused on:
• Design Apps SDK API Capabilities. You’ll empower Canva developers by designing meaningful API capabilities that will define what can be done in Canva Apps.
• Build the best-in-class Apps SDK experience. You’ll investigate inspiration and motivation from other ecosystems and SDKs.
• Strategy & Vision. You’ll work closely with the product manager, and engineer lead to define and articulate the product strategy and vision for the User, Asset, and Platform capabilities team.
• Identify Opportunities: You will drive the discovery process for your team, and identify opportunities that will help your team focus on the right capabilities.
• Collaborate. You’ll work closely with Product Managers and Engineering Leads both within and without your team, to prioritise and create a holistic and consistent user experience across our apps and product.
• Iterate. You’ll gather learnings to iterate through the use of research and data—we have a close relationship with our users which enables us to unearth valuable insights to improve their experience
• This is an individual contributor role, where you will lead and be accountable for projects, processes and craft mentorship without having any formal people management responsibilities
You’re probably a match if
• You have 6 years++ of end-to-end Product Design Experience. You’ve designed and shipped multiple products or features across various platforms.
• It would certainly be a plus if you have experience working with an Apps SDK before. You may have been involved in designing an API, working very closely with developers to understand their needs.
• Strong engineering literacy. You love working with engineers and solving complex technical problems.
• Highly Collaborative Approach. You’re happiest when working closely with other Designers, Engineers and Product Managers. You value feedback and brainstorming ideas.
• Problem-first mindset. You’re obsessed with identifying gaps/opportunities and enjoy deeply investigating ambiguous problems.
• You create clarity through your communication by making complex things simple. You can confidently present your ideas and tell a compelling story to the broader team.
• Data Fluency. You love using data to evaluate user problems, inform your design solutions and measure success.
• Stakeholder Management. You build trust with your teams and know when to bring the right people together to achieve common goals.
• Experience conducting user research and usability testing. You’re skilled in turning the outcomes into data to drive your design solutions.
• Interaction Design Experience. You’re able to use the appropriate prototyping tools to demonstrate how a particular flow or interaction will work
• You excel in UI Design. You’re driven to create strong visual designs that align with brand and design systems.
About The Group that you’ll be joining:
The Ecosystem Group focuses on building an abundant ecosystem of apps and integrations that support the expanding needs and workflows of Canva users; establishing us as the most comprehensive design platform in the world.
As a member of the User, Asset, and Platform Capabilities team, you’ll be responsible for designing API capabilities that will unlock the full potential of Canva Apps. In essence, your role will be to empower developers to create exceptional applications for the Canva ecosystem. Your team is dedicated to developing the Canva Apps SDK, which encompasses secure authentication, asset uploads, and communication with the backend/platform capabilities of the app.
