Job Summary: The primary responsibilities of the Teaching Technology Specialist will be to work closely with the Online Campus Director, Teaching Technology Manager, and IT department to develop programs and resources that can enhance, improve, and facilitate learning and teaching of online and face-to-face courses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with the Teaching Technology Manager on a regular basis to develop solutions to issues that may arise between Moodle (eClass) and Ellucian Colleague.
- Assists the Teaching Technology Manager with the maintenance and administration of Moodle (eClass).
- Further implements and maintains the badging platform and its integration with Moodle (eClass).
- Implements and maintains resources that will work with Southern?s LMS (Moodle).
- Develops and maintains a customized tech support tool to meet the technical support needs of students.
- Works with IT to continue improving the Attendance Tracking System platform and other online tools and its integration with Moodle (eClass).
- Serves as a consultant to faculty, both individually and in teams, in initiating, refining, and implementing instructional design and course development strategies which will result in improved teaching and learning.
- Uses background knowledge and skills to enhance overall visual appeal of online courses.
- Aids in managing digital infrastructure and resources.
- Conducts technology training.
- Explores new technologies to improve learning in online and face-to-face courses.
- Performs other Online Campus initiatives as necessary.
Education: Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or similar field. Master?s degree preferred.
Requirements:
- Experience with and strong knowledge of coding and programming.
- Working knowledge of web and software development technology tools such as GitHub, Bootstrap, a modern IDE, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and HTML5.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with cross-platform adaptation and problem solving (Moodle, Ellucian, etc.).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Special Requirements: An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and an Adventist church member in good and regular standing.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, and telephone. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lit and ventilated.
